Christopher J. Barry, M.D.
A graduate of Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, Dr. Barry completed his neurological surgery residency at the University of Iowa. Following his year as chief resident, Dr. Barry accepted the invitation to complete a spine fellowship and junior faculty appointment at the University of Iowa. Dr. Barry is the Director of Neurosurgery at Oklahoma Heart Hospital South. He specializes in treating surgical disorders and injuries of the brain, spine and peripheral nerves. Dr. Barry is regarded as an expert in cutting-edge minimally invasive neurosurgical and spine surgery techniques.
Dr. Barry has served as faculty in Medtronic’s training courses on the PRESTIGE® Cervical Disc and the direct-lateral approach as well as other minimally invasive procedures. As the first surgeon in the state of Oklahoma approved to perform artificial disc replacement using the PRESTIGE® cervical disc, Dr. Barry has instructed other surgeons in the use of this revolutionary technology. Dr. Barry also taught surgeons nationwide to use the direct-lateral, minimally invasive lumbar fusion technique. Using minimally invasive procedures, Dr. Barry is able to return his patients to their active lifestyles as quickly and safely as possible.

The Practice
During your initial visit, Dr. Barry or his assistant will discuss your symptoms, obtain your medical history and perform a physical examination. After then reviewing various diagnostic tests, you will be presented with a number of different treatment options. Dr. Barry and staff will help you weigh the benefits of each option and assist in making the final decision on which option is best for you. Patients are encouraged to ask questions and involve family and close friends as part of the collaborative process. Sometimes preparing a list of questions is helpful.
Dr. Barry is a pioneer in the field of minimally invasive techniques in the spine. He has assisted in the development and improvement of many state of the art procedures currently being used in spine surgery
With a focus on minimally invasive techniques for treating disorders of the spine, Dr. Barry is able to provide for his patients a quicker, less painful recovery. Dr. Barry uses the latest computer-assisted surgical procedures to perform operations through very small incisions, minimizing pain and recovery time.
